Sitting Pretty
London, England
September - October 2007
To coincide with the London Design Festival and Frieze Art Fair the Rabih Hage Gallery presents “Sitting Pretty” – an adventurous exhibition of portrait photography by Jonathan Root.
Renowned for his stylised and unique depictions of famed subjects, Root has photographed contemporary creative individuals with a chair of personal significance to them. Throughout this collection of portraits you will see pictures that reveal a new relationship between artist/designer and environment. These pictures enforce the idea that maker and object are one, emphasising the idea of designer as an isolated genius.
Rabih Hage is auctioning a selection of iconic chairs signed by the artists and designers from the exhibition. The profits will be donated to GEXSI, a charitable organisation who bring together donors, entrepreneurs and investors to fund projects in the world’s most vulnerable communities, helping to raise living standards and sustain the environment.
