Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek, a graduate from the Eindhoven Design Academy, has been working as a product designer since 1992. Piet's design aesthetic has clear direction and there is a constant story that connects all the collections and interiors.

In reaction against the prevalent craving for perfection Piet wanted to invert the values of cheap labour and expensive materials typically associated with production. The scrapwood collection is as far away from mass production and impersonal design as one could hope for; unique products are meticulously created from materials such as scrap lumber discarded by industry or found in nature that have no real monetary value.

Labour is not kept to a minimum, the materials are handled with endless patience and one cannot fail to notice the unerring care and devotion to create something inimitable.
