Interior design of a collector’s mews house in Chelsea.

This property is a pied-à-terre contained within the upper floors of a Victorian mews house. The client’s were drawn to the spaces and volumes of this convenient and centrally located home. Due to the narrow entrance and staircases, it was a challenge to install furniture and art of suitable proportions, but the end result was well worth these efforts.

area: 1,900 ft²

client: private

A great deal of the furniture are Hage’s own designs: the i-beam steel and glass coffee table, bespoke bucket sofa in orange velvet, limed oak bench, dining table and bespoke bookshelf. There are also many pieces by designers and artists that Hage has worked closely with and championed over the decades, many using salvaged or recycled materials: a Jar Chair by Johnny Swing, several lamps by Patrice Gruffaz, a steel cabinet clad in antique wallpaper by Piet Hein Eek as well as several pieces in scrap-wood also by Piet Hein Eek and text-based paintings by Susan Shup. The soothing neutrals that form the base of this interior provide the perfect canvas for this beautiful and varied collection of art and design.
