Two Americans In London

London, England

June - July 2005

This summer Rabih Hage will be launching the latest work of Paris-based American artist Susan Shup and New York-based furniture designer Johnny Swing.

Susan Shup paints, draws and uses digital imaging, video and sound within her work. She explores the multi-faceted aspects of a woman’s life as an artist, such as appearance, self-promotion and modesty and blends these mediums to create her striking work. Highlights that will be on show include the Sit Here chair, which plays with words inviting the viewer to sit down, as well as bedspreads for singles.

Johnny Swing will be showing his conceptual furniture and art installations made from unusual materials such as jam jars, street signs and a table constructed of TV monitors. His Nickel Couch and Penny Chair are entirely “upholstered’ with a sinuous ‘fabric” of coins intricately welded together.
